Enough Toxicity

Today, we are talking about all things Toxic. One might immediately think "harsh chemicals". Yes, but chemicals are not the only toxins in our lives.

First off, let's start with all the toxins in our ocean. There have been oil spills that cause irreversible damage. There is toxic waste (and just waste in general) that is intentionally dumped into the ocean. In such cases, accidents are regrettable but intentional acts are unforgivable. Then there are the harsh chemicals that come from Sunscreen. These types of toxins bleach our coral reefs to the point of their demise. Read more about toxic sunscreens in the blog post "Summer Skincare 1 & 2".

It's not just the oceans that are affected; the land and air are not free from toxins either. And yes, it's our fault. Let's target the pesticides that are sprayed on plants. Pesticides contaminate the plant and those who live off the plants >>> us and insects. Insects also include pollinators such as bees. Bees are highly affected by these harmful chemicals and now more than ever, we need to protect the bee population from extinction. We also have landfills that cause all sorts of negative reactions including soil contamination. So since we contaminate the plants and soil, of course, we had to also affect the sky. Factories release their toxins into the air all day every day. Hold up: we are also to blame when we use aerosol sprays. Aerosol has long been known to negatively affect the climate. So why do we still use it? Why is it still on the market?

Speaking of toxic products, I bet you have no idea how many toxins can be in cosmetics. Talc and parabens just to mention a couple. This is why you should also strive to collect clean and organic cosmetics. How about hair care? There are so many chemicals in hair care products, many of which are not beneficial in the long run. Soaps and creams are other categories. Artificial fragrances are usually the worst ingredient in soaps and creams. When it comes to nail polish, look for a brand that shows 7 or 10 Free such as Kester Black or Ella+Mila. This also goes for dish soap and laundry detergents. I recommend 7th Generation or Mrs. Meyers for all cleaning supplies. Or at least look for a cleaning product that states they use clean or plant-based ingredients. Think about it. All that water with dish soap and laundry detergent either goes to the water system or your lawn. You minus well use a clean product that won't harm the environment. You also don't want to wash your cloth in harsh chemicals. Those chemicals eventually come into contact with you via your clothes. If you use the Think Dirty app, you can easily rate how clean your products are.

And finally, we've come down to us. What are all the toxic things we do to ourselves? Let's start with drinking alcohol aka getting intoxicated; which literally has the word toxic in it. Drinking alcohol causes premature aging, dehydration, liver damage, poor reputation, and death from over intoxication. Moving on to other poisons called drugs. No, I will not elaborate on this one because your smart enough to know that drugs are bad for your health and can potentially kill you. The same goes for smoking. Cigarettes, tobacco, nicotine: all these bad boys want to do is cause premature aging, lung disease, respiratory disease, ugly teeth, and finally death. How about our diet? It's easy to eat healthily, but it's not always easy to turn away from naughty foods. Chips, processed food, butter and grease, sweets. All so very tasty, but never beneficial to our health.

Do you know what else is toxic to our health; mental and emotional? Toxic relationships. I wanted to leave the worst for last. A toxic relationship can be between family, friends, and couples. Why would I say this is the worst toxin? Because toxic relationships turn you into someone you are not. It can influence you in negative ways. Toxic relationships don't just cause emotional and mental damage, they cause you to generate damage to yourself and others. They can influence poor decisions such as drinking, smoking, drugs, cruelty, carelessness, pollution, and the list goes on. Toxic relationships can ruin a life in every way.

Now that I have concluded my list of toxins, I want you to make the difference. Avoid these toxins and improve your life and the environment. Think about all the products you use from the very start of your day till the end. Would you say your products are toxin-free? If you say no, imagine all the damage you are causing yourself by using these products over and over again. Do yourself a favor and stop. Start looking for clean and organic brands. There is nothing wrong with investing in yourself. If you find yourself in a toxic relationship, don't even think about it. You don't need a reason or an explanation. You just need to break free of it as soon as possible. Throw the trash out so that you have space for something wonderful instead. Improve your diet. The saying you are what you eat is not far from the truth. Protect the environment and be an example.

Get rid of as many toxins as you can. Think of it as a new start if you want. Believe me, you'll feel better afterward. Let me know what toxins I've left out of this list in the comments below. I would love to chat with you about it.

Thanks for the read my dears!

XoXo,
